Here Comes the Sun

Under variable conditions the 1st ever "Boontown Throwdown" was held on Saturday and provided some exceptional results.
Rain marked the dawn as frolfers from the coast and the valley journeyed to the Disc Golf Course @The Anderson Valley Brewing Company. Arrive for frolf with beer in barrels fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la. Don us now in rain apparel fa-la-la fa-la-la la-la-la. Tis the season for grinding out pars fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la. Very few players could say, for sure, that they accomplished that task.
First round had rain and gusty winds and plenty of bogies. A good rag (one that wasn't dropped in a puddle) and some good traction shoes would prove indispensable on a day like this. After the troops returned to the bar, there were some heads hung down and NO one was claiming outright victory.
The players commandeered the outdoor, covered gazebos of the brewery "Beergarden" and proceeded to fill there proverbial tanks with hot dogs and raw burgers (provided by Davey "the dentist" Stein and grilled by Ryan "howyoulikethatdone?" Magee) and mentally prepared for what seemed like another rain soaked round.
The TDs (Matthew "Igotsomanynicknamesitain'tworthusingonehere" Starkweather and James "Jim" Eldridge) announced the final round and sent the players out for battle. The lead card consisted of Hawk, Jeremy, Ryan and George. To the astonishment of all, the rain cleared, the sun came out and the wind picked up. It was another tough, grind it out round. When all the cards came back, there were still heads down and NO one claimed to have had a decisive round.
The field gathered in the brewery "Tasting Room" as the TDs calculated the scores. The leader card held up... sort of. Leap-frogging up from the chase card, Derrick tied Jeremy for third place, George scored the best handicapped round of the tourney with a -2 and our winner with two -1 handicapped scores was non other than Hawk with a combined -2 total and enough clout to win the special tourney trophy.
Congrats to Hawk on his win and George on his second place finish. Here's cheers for Derrick and Jeremy for grinding it out to third and agreeing to call it a tie. Thanks to Davey D for providing a delicious lunch to grind on. A HUGE Up for our TDs who set up the tourney, added a new hole and organized with the brewery to set up an unprecedented payout of 7 spots in a MCFC special Tournament. Thanks guys.
Let's set our sights on the Ice Bowl and the third installment of the coast cup series.

  2. A big THANK YOU to the TD's for putting this together and bringing everybody out. I had a great time and sure I can speak for my carpool buddies (Hawk & Jesse) and say that they, too had a good time. One thing I must say though, I was very disappointed in all the FULL beers (IPA's because everyone knows that the Summer Solstice's are much too good too waste)that were left on the tables when we left. Shame on us.

  4. BIG thanks to CTDs JimmerMcJimmerson and BoonWeather! Thank you to Rye Bread for the write-up and Wip (I think) for posting Hawk's picture. A thank you to mother earth for blessing us with some sun. Thank you to the hopps heavens for the tasty bevvies (even though I didn't partake because I left my liver in Tucson, Arizona)! Well, I guess we all learned (at least I did) that winter conditions weren't as easy as summer conditions. CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners especially HAWK for 1st place!

I had a great time so thanks everyone for the good energy.
Wip- don't worry, Ryan noticed all the half-full beers on the way out and drank them!
(I would have helped but I was driving)

  8. Boontown Throwdown was a lot of fun, though I was skeptical at first; when the weather the CTDs ordered was delivered and found to be shitty, and I bogied hole 1, I had serious thoughts of quitting on hole 3. But then the sun shined, I par'ed a few holes with close birdie puts, and I decided to just play the day and have fun. And I did have a great time (although I think I only had one birdie all day - a looooong 80ft. put on hole 3). I did not win any swag, nor did I go home with a hand-carved-cherry-destroyer, but I'm glad I came out and look forward to the next special tourney.
